Breaking News. Our beloved Spin Starlets just stunned a massive audience on the biggest stage in Toronto! It happened on Wednesday the 10th of May 2023, a date hockey fans will remember as Game 4 in the Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers Playoff series. The Leafs won and NorthFIRE Circus made history.
Spin Starlets performed live for Leafs' Nation at Maple Leaf Square in front of thousands of fans while the team was out of town. Thankfully the Leafs won the game! Whoop whoop! The crucial victory was just what they needed to stave off elimination in the 2023 NHL Play Offs. The Spin Starlets were part of their winning solution. The gals danced their hearts out and gyrated on stage and their fluid movements pacified an army of restless supporters during the game’s second period intermission and before Mitch Marner scored the winning goal in the third.
Spin Starlets made their NHL stage debut amidst bursts of smoke and bright lights during the game’s Second Period intermission. After being introduced by the charismatic Master of Ceremonies, they danced to the music of Kylie Minogue and wowed the crowd with their LED batons and glowing hula hoops. Check it out - watch the video below..
Be sure and watch the video all the way to the end. There is about forty seconds of the SWAG squad dispensing free T-Shirts. The young people who linger backstage are the most diverse crew of hockey fanatics anyone could ever meet. They eat, sleep, and breath Maple Leaf Hockey and go ballistic when their team scores a goal. Even a close shot on the opponents net is cause for cheer. You can see the crew at work on the left hand side of the image below as Carleton the bear throws t-shirts like softballs. How did these cotton garments get wrapped in such tight little packages? The SWAG crew spends hours all afternoon on site folding the garments a specific way so they remain tightly packed units that will go the distance and are perfect for chucking into crowds.
Around 9pm the Spin Starlets performed their signature glow show and they were not nervous or visibly worried in any way about performing in front of so many people or delivering anything less than perfect synchronicity. They came on stage with mile-wide smiles and twirled their toys to momentarily distract everyone from the tension of the game.
Thousands of Leafs’ fans made the journey downtown to be part of the mass excitement and collectively share their anxiety. Their beloved team was down three-games-to-nothing in the Florida series and everyone was justifiably on edge. The Starlets were fortunate the Leafs were ahead by one goal when the duo appeared on stage as the crowd was happy and receptive.
The audience cheered loudly and many faces were lit by cellphones as they recorded the show to share with their family and friends at home.
What Happens Backstage in Maple Leaf Square During a Hockey Game?
Attendance is free at the Tailgate Party that happens on the west face of the Scotiabank arena, but not all the fan zones are publicly accessible. Maple Leaf Square is VIP only and that means regular fans have to content themselves with less-crowded amenities farther down Bremner. Don’t worry, everyone gets to watch on the same size massive TV screens, but those closest to the stage receive more free gifts and have a much better chance of appearing on television during the game. They also get to watch the Spin Starlets in all their glory.
The VIP area is populated by camera-ready young people who show up by the car load. They are invariably chaperoned by elders who must be hockey dads and coaches.
Navigating through the protective bubble was easy for the Spin Starlets who arrived in costume holding their hula hoops. At the first checkpoint, the staff didn’t ask any questions. They just waved them through. At the second gate, a representative from MLSE came down to met them to escort them through the media enclosure and past the final barrier that blocks the path to the backstage area.
They made it with time to spare. Here they are relaxing in the performers’ tent behind the scenes. Oh Rapunzel, let down your hair!
You should book the Spin Starlets for your next event.
